To ensure that Bafokeng Health centre is recognised as practising according to the mother-baby friendly World Health Organisation guidelines by 2015. This will be done through the promotion, support and protection of breastfeeding and the implementation of the infant and young child feeding policy with the aim to protect mothers and their infants from harmful practices there by reducing maternal and infant mortality. This project is a pilot study and if successful, it will be rolled over to other Bafokeng health centers. Planned completion date of the project is in November 2014
In scope:
Establish a MBFI Committee
Conduct Self-appraisal within Facility
Develop infant and young child feeding policy for the maternity facilities
Conduct MBFI pilot project in Phokeng health center
Train health professionals and general staff on relevant policies
Health promotion to clients
record infant feeding within the facility
Establish support group and referral systems
