Ikitse (Study on community perceptions and needs)
Project Status:
Completed
Project Number: 1848
Project Scope:

This project aims to improve two-way interaction between the administration and morafe by 1) improving morafe’s levels of knowledge about themselves and the RBN as a community, and 2) eliciting morafe's perceptions of and levels of satisfaction with services provided to them. This process will also result in a more well founded 'community needs analysis' and be constructed in a manner that can be documented as a formal community consultation process.

Phase 1) will include communicating basic village level demographic and socio-economic data to morafe, as well as summaries of recent interventions in their villages. The format of the information will be appropriate to the language and literacy levels of the community (using data visualization techniques) and will be developed and disseminated in a participatory manner to enhance local ownership of the data. An information package will be developed for each of the 29 villages. The Research Department will lead, with the assistance of the Stakeholder Relations/Communications department in RBH (Siza Majola). Data visualization will be contracted out to professional designers. The community engagement processes around the data adaptation will be run in-house by the research department.

Phase 2) will be integrated into the engagement workshops around the information dissemination and will involve trained local facilitators working with village representatives to develop locally-prioritised initiatives for local implementation or proposal to RBN entities for support. it will also include the identification and documentation of key perception feedback indicators for each key priority area of the RBN as a contribution to impact monitoring over time.

The intention of the project is to increase pride and awareness among morafe, pilot new communication mechanisms between RBN entities and morafe, and strengthen village level initiatives to address socio-economic challenges themselves rather than waiting for RBN interventions. It will also provide RBN entities with feedback from communities that will inform programming and will provide some data towards the overall impact assessment of RBN entity activities.

After the initial development phase in 2015, the project will be developed into an ongoing programme, where the basic village level data is updated annually and the needs assessment workshops are held twice a year.

Approved Scope Change: November 2015

This project has been split into two Phases, the one is to collect village data from PULA and design 29 village posters, and Phase 2 is to host community dialogues.  The first phase is under way and the posters, fliers and billboards will be printed in 2015.  The second phase will only start next year 2016.

Approved Scope Change: June 2016

The Research department collected and compiled all the data from PULA 2011 into 29 village profiles.  RBH is responsible the design, printing and dissemination of the village profiles.
